Cybersonica 07 Premieres at Tate Britain - FRIDAY
Aside from the biblical importance of this coming Friday, it will also be a Good Friday because London's Cybersonica festival begins. In its sixth year, this is the city's largest international gathering for electronic music, digital and sonic art and experimental technology - a showcase for many exciting emerging artists.
This year the festival kicks-off by hosting Tate Britain's monthly Late at Tate evening from 6-10pm.
Exhibiting will be live performers (The Sancho Plan, Brian Duffy's Modified Toy Orchestra, DJ Shelley Parker, body>data>space, and more) and featuring in the museum's rotunda will be Martyn Ware (The Human League, Heaven 17) showcasing his 3D immersive sound system, invented with his mate Vince Clarke (Depeche Mode, Yazoo, Erasure) for their company The Illustrious Company. - D-Fuse presents a documentary about the book VJ exploring audio-visual art and vj culture
- Sophie Clement gives a VJ set
- Artist Ray Lee exhibits his Metal Detectors & Small Circle of Ether
- Trojan Sound System presents Jamaican sounds
- DubYaWar presents a mixed visual documentary of London's Don't Attack Iraq protests
- squidsoup exhibits Freq 2, turning shadows into sound
- Dynamite Fishing offers a fresh mix of visuals of public domain images
- The Speakoloscope will debut as the first interactive video guestbook, inviting guests to have comments projected onto the museum's wall
- Someth;ng exhibits its Headspin work
- Inition shows its Autostereoscopic Touch 3D Display
- Stanza invites guests to interact with its Touchscreen Works
- Fijuu's Fijuu 2 Cybersonica commissioned piece will be on view, showing what happens when artists turn the PlayStation 2 into 3D sonic art
Cybersonica has partnered with the Encompass music festival, and Kinetica Museum to bring artists and performers to the Late at Tate night, and is supported with funding from the Arts Council England.
So, can't make it Friday? Don't worry - you get another chance, as Cybersonica will be exhibiting at Kinetica Museum in trendy Spitalfields for six-weeks, beginning 17th May. The festival also goes on tour to Cambridge for participation in the Enter_Unknown Territories festival (25-29 April) and to Bradford for bTWEEN (13-15 June).
